About The Position

Joining GFL Fairburn as a Helper is an excellent opportunity to start a career in the waste management industry, with a strong emphasis on internal promotion. This role is physically demanding and takes place outdoors, requiring individuals who are active and prefer working in fresh air over a desk environment. The primary mission is to safely assist drivers in collecting residential solid waste and recyclables to maintain clean neighborhoods.

Requirements

Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision.
Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with your driver.
A "safety-first" mindset at all times.
Must be able to meet safety-sensitive function criteria according to Company standards.
Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED is preferred.
1–3 months of related physical labor experience is a plus.
A valid driver’s license is a plus.

Responsibilities

Safely assist drivers in the collection of residential solid waste and recyclables.
Efficiently load materials into the vehicle and sort recyclables into appropriate compartments.
Act as the "second set of eyes" for the driver, assisting with backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces.
Operate hydraulic compacting equipment.
Ensure the truck is stocked with necessary tools (brooms, shovels, etc.) before leaving the yard.
Maintain a professional demeanor and identify/tag prohibited waste items.
Work closely with supervisors to improve routing and ensure every route meets GFL’s high-quality standards.
