About The Position

Vredevoogd is a leading heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, and generator service provider committed to delivering exceptional service to homeowners. We are seeking an experienced Residential Generator Service Technician to join our growing team. The Residential Generator Service Technician is responsible for accurately troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on standby generators. This position performs both scheduled maintenance and emergency service calls while providing customers with professional repair recommendations and exceptional service. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of working independently while collaborating with other service technicians to ensure all work is completed efficiently and to the highest standards.

Requirements

  • Experience servicing standby power generators preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, circuitry, and diesel or gaseous engines.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and service management software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage service calls efficiently.
  • Ability to lift equipment and work in various indoor and outdoor environments.

Nice To Haves

  • EGSA Certification.
  • Manufacturer certifications, including Generac, Kohler, or similar.
  • HVAC or mechanical service background.
  • Experience with automatic transfer switches and paralleling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Service, repair, modify, diagnose, and rebuild standby generators.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and emergency repair services.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, fuel, cooling, charging, and control systems.
  • Diagnose generator and transfer switch failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Perform failure analysis and field repairs for customers.
  • Service a variety of generator brands, including Generac and Kohler.
  • Operate, drive, and maintain company service vehicles, tools, and parts inventory.
  • Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer recommendations accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies and industry best practices.
  • Stay current on product updates, technical bulletins, manufacturer specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment condition, repair options, and maintenance recommendations.
  • Collaborate with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical departments as needed to support customer projects.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new standby generators.
