About The Position

Choices for People provides year-round support and instructional programs designed to aid individuals with disabilities in developing essential life skills. These skills promote inclusion, independence, self-sufficiency, and productivity; and aim to maximize the individual’s quality of life in the least restrictive environment possible. Choices for People assists in individual goal-oriented program planning, and acts as an advocate in the community through the removal of attitudinal, architectural, environmental, financial, employment-related, communicational, transportation, and other barriers. The Residential Finance Specialist supports the financial well-being of individuals served and assists with revenue cycle operations within residential programs. This position is responsible for managing individual funds, supporting representative payee functions, monitoring individual benefits eligibility, assisting individuals with financial needs, maintaining regulatory compliance, assisting with individual budgets and support billing and reimbursement processes.

Requirements

Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Services, or related field preferred, from a two-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
At least 1 year of experience in healthcare, behavioral health, developmental disabilities, residential services, or nonprofit organizations preferred.
At least 1 year of experience with representative payee services, public benefits administration, billing, or financial recordkeeping preferred.
At least 1 year of experience working with Medicaid and other government benefit programs preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, build relationships, and engage effectively with individuals served, staff, community members, and partners.
Strong initiative, independence, and time-management abilities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and commonly used financial systems
Ability to represent the organization professionally in community settings, stakeholder meetings, and public events.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate financial records for individuals served.
Process deposits, disbursements, and account transactions for individual funds.
Ensure proper documentation for all financial activity.
Assist individuals with approved financial transactions in accordance with agency policies.
Assist with administration of representative payee responsibilities.
Ensure Social Security, SSI, SSDI, and other income sources are properly received and managed.
Maintain documentation required by the Social Security Administration and other regulatory agencies.
Prepare reports and records related to representative payee responsibilities.
Coordinate with guardians, family members, and service coordinators regarding individual finances.
Monitor eligibility and renewal requirements for Medicaid, SSI, SSDI, SNAP, and other benefit programs.
Assist individuals and families with benefit applications and renewals.
Work proactively to prevent interruptions in benefits and funding sources.
Assist with residential billing activities.
Review census, authorizations, and supporting documentation for billing accuracy.
Review remittance advice and identify discrepancies for follow-up.
Assist with accounts receivable monitoring and collection efforts as assigned.
Perform reconciliations related to individual funds and representative payee accounts.
Maintain compliance with agency policies and applicable regulations.
Assist with audits and regulatory reviews.
Assist with individual budget development, monitoring, and variance tracking.
Support audit preparation activities, including documentation gathering and coordination with internal and external partners.
Maintain knowledge of relevant industry trends, best practices, and regulations related to relevant accounting principles, financial regulations, and nonprofit financial compliance requirements.
Uphold organizational policies and ensure all financial and operational activities comply with internal procedures, state regulations, and federal requirements.
Operate facility vehicles when required, ensuring adherence to all safety policies, licensing requirements, and governmental regulations.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all individual, staff, and organizational information and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy and confidentiality laws. This obligation applies both during employment and after separation from the organization.
