About The Position

The Residential Facility Manager (RFM) is a student staff position within the Residence Life office, primarily supporting Housing Operations. The RFM assists with facilities, residence halls, environmental health and safety, sustainability, summer operations, and administrative tasks. This role reports to the Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life & Student Conduct or their designee.

Requirements

  • Minimum cumulative/semester GPA of 2.5.
  • Good academic standing with no open sanctions.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check after hire.
  • Prior experience as a Residential Facility Assistant or equivalent student leadership position.
  • Demonstrated capability to coordinate complex building maintenance and inventory tracking systems.
  • Advanced time management skills to oversee multi-building walkthroughs and shift scheduling.
  • Proven ability to handle high-stress situations and emergency facility crises calmly.
  • Strong peer leadership skills to manage, train, and delegate to a team of assistants.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to quickly evolving situations.
  • Demonstrated emotional maturity to cope with the day-to-day challenges of employment.
  • Sensitivity and concern for others as individuals.
  • Ability to safely perform physical work including crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs., repetitive motions, and driving, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in environments with loud noise, vibrations, proximity hazards, and potential exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and heights or cramped quarters, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Residential Facility Assistants (RFAs) and approve their time cards.
  • Collaborate with RFAs to address behavioral concerns and implement disciplinary measures.
  • Serve as a liaison between professional supervisors and RFAs.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute supplies, and conduct inventory audits.
  • Manage incoming communications (phone, mail, email) and ensure proper distribution.
  • Support data entry and maintain department files, records, and storage systems.
  • Assist with housing records, damage billing, and schedule meetings.
  • Attend all required training, in-services, and development meetings.
  • Understand the financial working mechanisms of each residence hall and community.
  • Attend staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with the supervisor, and participate in the evaluation process.
  • Manage office email accounts and support office opening/closing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Move, lift, and transfer items within and between residence halls, including loft kits, bedding, and furniture.
  • Build/construct items such as bookcases, games, and furniture.
  • Audit keys, pool tables, and building supplies.
  • Manage the work order reporting process to ensure timely maintenance.
  • Monitor the storage and use of inventory in residence halls and control access to storage areas.
  • Document items placed in or claimed from storage and ensure storage guidelines are followed.
  • Assist with storage room maintenance.
  • Conduct building walk-throughs and room inspections/inventories.
  • Assist with fire drills and drug sweeps.
  • Escort vendors within the residence halls.
  • Support the evaluation of residential safety initiatives.
  • Identify, document, and report maintenance, facilities, health, and safety concerns or emergencies.
  • Maintain supplies of necessary forms, sustainability and recycling materials, signage, and checklists.
  • Create and update files on health and safety.
  • Create signs for halls regarding facility-related issues.
  • Maintain marketing materials for the facilities team.
  • Communicate with students and staff regarding facilities and emergencies via various media.
  • Prepare opening/closing material packets for staff and signage for students.
  • Support programming initiatives as requested.
  • Develop positive relationships with residents through engagement.
  • Role model appropriate behavior and uphold College policies.
  • Assist residents in need, including referrals and triaging concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Address breaches of College policy through confrontation and documentation.
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism.
  • Support professional supervisor with administrative tasks, including weekly RFA staff meetings, bi-weekly individual meetings, documentation of on-duty activities, weekly reports, and program evaluations.
  • Adhere to blackout dates for adequate staffing during high-need periods.
  • Participate in extensive training, including collaboration with Facilities and Health & Safety departments.
  • Participate in mandatory training such as Mental Health First Aid, Blood-Borne Pathogens, Ladder Safety, and Golf Cart Operation.
  • Attend In-Service Time on the 3rd Thursdays of each month.
  • Fully participate in staff training during late April and late August.
  • Assist with all housing transitions, including Fall, Interim, and Spring move-ins and closings.
