About The Position
Power up a career that's only getting bigger. EV chargers, generators, panel upgrades: homes are running on more power than ever, and the Roanoke Valley needs more electricians to keep up. Ostrom is looking for an Electrical Apprentice who wants to learn the trade from the ground up, get paid while doing it, and work toward a license and a truck of their own. No experience needed. You'll learn it all hands-on from electricians who've been wiring this valley for years.
Requirements
- A strong work ethic and the drive to become a licensed electrician
- Mechanical and math aptitude and comfort with hand and power tools
- Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work in attics, crawl spaces, and all kinds of weather
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license, insurable driving record, and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
- Must be 18 years of age or older to apply
Nice To Haves
- Prior electrical, construction, or hands-on experience is a plus, but not required
Responsibilities
- Work alongside lead electricians installing and repairing main panels, subpanels, lighting, outlets, switches, generators, and EV chargers
- Learn to safely track down faults, outages, tripped breakers, and wiring issues
- Build your knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), circuit layouts, and electrical diagnostics
- Get hands-on with the tools and diagnostic equipment of the trade
- Keep your truck stocked, clean, and ready to roll
- Protect every customer's home with drop cloths and shoe covers, and leave it spotless
- Represent Ostrom with courtesy and respect in every home you walk into
- Follow all safety protocols, OSHA standards, NFPA 70E guidelines, and local electrical codes
