About The Position

We are seeking a Residential Counselor for our Harbor House Residential Program who is passionate about supporting individuals on their recovery journey and helping them build the skills needed to live independently. Harbor House is an 8-bed, continually staffed adult psychiatric community residence that provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment where residents living with serious and persistent mental illness are assisted in achieving their highest level of independence and recovery. The program offers structured activities designed to help individuals build skills, reach their goals, and maximize their potential. These are Per Diem positions and various shifts are available as this is a 24/7 program. This position is designated as Onsite Essential Staff and is required to report to work during inclement weather and other emergency situations. Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least two years of direct care experience, or two years of college education.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to transport clients as needed.
  • Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, behavioral health challenges, or co-occurring disorders preferred.
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships while supporting individuals toward greater independence.

Responsibilities

  • Support residents with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, budgeting, and community integration.
  • Assist individuals in developing, implementing, and achieving personalized recovery plans that reflect their goals, strengths, and preferences.
  • Facilitate recovery-focused and rehabilitation-based activities and groups that promote independent living skills.
  • Coordinate services and connect residents with clinical, educational, vocational, medical, and community resources.
  • Provide emotional support, crisis intervention, advocacy, and problem-solving assistance as needed.
  • Assist with medication monitoring, appointment scheduling, transportation, and health and safety needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, service records, and electronic health record data.
  • Work collaboratively with treatment teams, family members, and natural supports to help residents achieve meaningful recovery outcomes.
