The Residential Counselor is responsible for providing care and treatment to adolescent clients as outlined in their treatment plan. This role functions as a member of the client's treatment team, implementing daily living activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring clients' personal hygiene. The counselor will set appropriate limits, escort clients to activities or appointments, and adhere to guidelines for observing clients on special precautions. They will also coach recreational activities, model professional behavior, and follow procedures for intervening with aggressive clients. Additionally, the role involves documenting client progress, interacting respectfully with clients, parents, and the public, tracking community service hours, ensuring client needs are met, and demonstrating knowledge of disaster and safety plans. The counselor is also responsible for accurate medication administration and documentation, and for understanding and implementing culturally sensitive treatment approaches.
