About The Position

Mills House is a community-based group home which provides 24 hour staffing and a built in therapeutic component for 5 boys aged 14-21 who have experienced serious emotional and behavioral problems, and who have lived in more restrictive programs or institutions. The home allows the boys to live in a more familial, natural setting within the community. The program emphasizes maximizing each boy's ability to develop skills for living successfully outside of an institutional setting through the participation in normative community activities. The Residential Counselor role involves maintaining the physical environment and program standards, monitoring self-administration of client medications, utilizing effective communication methods, teaching and assisting residents with activities of daily living, managing administrative functions, preparing and facilitating educational and skill-building groups, collaborating with providers and families, assisting residents with medical and psychiatric needs, maintaining documentation, and participating in staff meetings and trainings.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license required with good driving record.
Two years’ experience working with a relevant population preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintains physical environment and program standards set by funders, accreditors, and agency policies.
Monitor self-administration of client medications in accordance with the agency medication policies and procedure as program may require.
Effectively utilizes appropriate communication methods/tools to effectively collaborate with co-workers and clients.
Teaches and assists all residents in areas of developmentally appropriate activities of daily living.
Assists/Manages administrative functions and tasks at the direction of the supervisor.
Prepares and facilitates educational and skill building groups and one to one intervention as directed by the treatment plan.
Collaborates and coordinate care with providers and families as needed.
Assists residents in addressing medical and psychiatric needs.
Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
Participates in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, and other meetings as assigned.
Additional duties as required.
