About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for Residential Drivers to join our Residential Collection team in Edmonton, AB! At GFL our goal is to invest in our people and provide opportunities to grow for life! This is an extremely labor intensive role, requiring significant physical endurance and strength. As a Residential Driver, you will be servicing over 1,000 residential homes per day, lifting and loading waste carts and materials by hand into the collection truck. The ideal candidate must be prepared for a highly demanding work environment that requires repetitive heavy lifting, extensive walking, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Requirements

  • Valid Class 3Q (airbrake) or higher operator's license, with a clean 5-year commercial driver’s abstract
  • Exceptional physical stamina – must be able to repeatedly lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 lbs throughout the shift
  • Comfortable with early morning starts and long workdays
  • Must be able to safely drive the truck and operate manual side load equipment
  • Must meet the safety-sensitive function criteria as established by company standards
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Responsibilities

  • Manually load solid waste, yard waste, and/or recyclables into the truck hopper all day
  • Operate a manual side-load residential waste truck, including hydraulic hopper compaction controls
  • Walk and lift continuously throughout the shift, servicing over 1,000 homes daily
  • Tag prohibited wastes items, and report infraction to supervisor.
  • Ensure all required personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times
  • Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily documentation
  • Communicate any mechanical issues to maintenance personnel
  • Follow all safety standards and regulations
  • Assist with overflow routes, shop and yard tasks, and additional duties as assigned
