Residential Architectural Designer/Draftsperson (Structural Focus)
About The Position
David Weekley Homes is seeking a skilled Architectural Designer/Draftsperson to join our Orlando Division. This role supports our architectural design and construction teams by producing high-quality construction documents and ensuring alignment between architectural plans and structural requirements. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a strong background in structural coordination, either through direct experience with structural engineering or through hands-on collaboration with engineers in a residential or related environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a drafting professional who is confident working with structural plans, truss packages, and construction details and enjoys being a key contributor in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
Requirements
- 2+ years of drafting or architectural design experience (residential preferred).
- Proficient in AutoCAD (Revit a plus).
- Strong understanding of structural plans, truss drawings, and basic construction methods.
- Experience working with or coordinating with structural engineers.
- Familiar with structural terminology and able to manage multiple projects independently and within a team.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive with strong communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in residential homebuilding, permitting, and familiarity with Florida building codes is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Create and update residential construction drawings (floor plans, elevations, plot plans, and details).
- Integrate structural plans and truss layouts into architectural documents.
- Coordinate with structural engineers, consultants, trade partners, and internal teams.
- Ensure plans meet company standards, building codes, and permitting requirements.
- Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and structural alignment.
- Resolve conflicts between architectural and structural elements.
- Support permitting and production timelines through timely revisions.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date plan documentation.
