About The Position

The Safety Monitor / Residential Aide (“SMRA”) coordinates and ensures the overall safety and security of the facility. The SMRA monitors and verifies resident movement, conduct, and overall behavior in the facility and around the perimeter of the building. The SMRA manages access control to ensure all residents and visitors comply with building entry and exit protocols and conducts daily bed counts for vacancy control. The SMRA also assists with food distribution, resident supplies distribution, mail distribution, and coordination of maintenance and repair needs with hotel / facility management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, nights and/or weekends and overtime if necessary.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Food Handler’s Certification
  • F-02 certification
  • 1-2 years of experience working in related field preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls, and perform proper notifications.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 50lbs), tour property, walk distances, and climb stairs (up to 3-4 flights).

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety and security of all residents, visitors, staff, and property, and provides support services to residents.
  • Screens all residents, staff, and visitors to the facility, ensures all exits and entries are documented, and ensures Security personnel conduct bag searches and body wand searches.
  • Provides limited crisis intervention and de-escalation to residents as needed and coordinate with social service staff for case management and follow-up.
  • Contacts supervisor and/or the proper authorities as needed.
  • Conducts weekly unit / dorm inspections with social service staff in accordance with OTDA/DSS standards and protocols.
  • Reviews video cameras and monitors common areas.
  • Enforces facility safety standards including proper wearing of PPE as applicable, Safety Monitor vests, and ID badges.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation accurately throughout shift, i.e., turn-over, census, logs, incident reports, case notes, etc.
  • Coordinates with Building Maintenance to address maintenance and repair needs and physical plant hazards.
  • Facilitates and documents evacuation procedures (i.e. fire drills) as directed.
  • Conducts initial intake for new residents.
  • Gathers basic demographics and immediate needs, reviews program rules and regulations, and enforces the rule of 2 bags per person.
  • Conducts periodic resident wellness checks and daily bed counts for vacancy control.
  • Conducts heightened resident wellness checks for special needs residents.
  • Enforces and educates residents on house rules, and CHI and DSS policies and regulations.
  • Refers non-compliant residents to social service staff.
  • Performs administrative and reception duties at front desk when needed.
  • Ensures units are cleaned and ready for new placements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisors, Operations Coordinator, and Program Director.
