About The Position

Detroit Recovery Project (DRP) is seeking compassionate, dependable, and recovery-oriented Residential Advisors to support the daily operations of our 24-hour Youth Recovery Home serving Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) ages 18–24. This position plays a critical role in creating a safe, structured, and supportive living environment for youth navigating recovery, mental health challenges, substance use concerns, independent living development, and personal growth goals. The Residential Advisor will provide direct support, supervision, crisis intervention, monitoring, and engagement to residents during weekend shifts while promoting a positive and recovery-focused environment aligned with DRP’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods
  • Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies or crisis situations
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Healthcare, or related field preferred
  • Experience working with youth, behavioral health, substance use recovery, crisis intervention, residential care, patient monitoring, patient sitting, or community-based programs strongly preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential strongly preferred
  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) or interest in obtaining certification preferred
  • Experience as a Patient Sitter, Behavioral Health Technician, Residential Technician, Direct Care Worker, Mental Health Technician, or similar monitoring/support role preferred
  • Experience working with Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) populations preferred
  • Experience within behavioral health, recovery, residential treatment, hospital, shelter, or supportive housing settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support residents within the Youth Recovery Home environment
  • Promote a safe, structured, respectful, and recovery-oriented atmosphere
  • Assist residents with daily living skills, routines, and accountability
  • Conduct regular room checks, wellness checks, and safety rounds
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed
  • Support conflict resolution and reinforce house expectations and policies
  • Complete required documentation, incident reports, shift notes, and communication logs accurately and timely
  • Assist with meal support, transportation coordination, appointments, and community activities as needed
  • Observe and report behavioral, emotional, or safety concerns to Leadership and Clinical staff
  • Support residents with connection to recovery resources, coping strategies, and independent living development
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold HIPAA and organizational standards at all times
