About The Position

The Resident Services Manager is a full-time, live-on position, responsible for the operations of three 24-hour Service Desks and one Information Desk in an undergraduate student housing community of 2,195 students. The position will directly supervise approximately 80-90 student staff (Community Assistants).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1-2 years of residence life or student service experience.
  • Experience working with undergraduate student populations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student housing management software.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., copier, computer, telephone).
  • Experience supervising student staff members.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to live on site and participate in an after-hours on-call duty rotation

  • Master’s Degree (preferred) in Higher Education/Student Affairs/Counseling or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Professional Staff On-Duty rotation for South Campus Commons, The Courtyards at UMD, and Discovery House.
  • Directly oversee Service Desks and Information Desk policies, procedures, and customer service. This includes emergency response protocol and after-hours facilities emergency response.
  • Directly manage student staff functions including selection, on-boarding, multiple trainings throughout the year, supervision, evaluation, and accountability. This includes Community Assistants and six to eight student staff facilities on-call members.
  • Directly oversee three 24/7 Service Desks for 2,195 residents for resident needs including packages, the package log system, keys, and general resident questions
  • Audits all key/swipe access, carts, and other items provided at Service Desks. Ensure proper billing and documentation of items as needed.
  • Conducts regular key audits and ensures keys are secured and organized. Manages emergency unit key and swipe access.
  • Directly oversees student staff scheduling for all four desks.
  • Plans and leads monthly staff meetings with student staff.
  • Responsible for the appearance and organization of Service Desks and package closets.
  • Manages the student staff development budget.
  • Supports and works collaboratively with other team members in the implementation of move-out, turn, and move-in. Oversight of move-in and check-out packets for all residents.
  • Support the mission and efforts connected to UMD Student Affairs and Resident Life goals/objectives. Collaborates with South Campus Commons Resident Life Staff regarding resident events and engagement, student support and outreach, and student staff involvement.
  • Utilizes Star Rez, Entrata, Lenel, and other database systems to ensure accurate record keeping of student information.
  • Contributes content to the South Campus Commons weekly email update.
  • Assist with social media, website, and publication content creation.
  • Assist the Associate Director-Resident Experience with other duties/projects as assigned.
