About The Position

The Director of Resident Services serves as the strategic leader and master planner for all Independent Living programming. This role ensures a vibrant, engaging, and cost-effective community-wide program that supports successful aging and the seven dimensions of wellness: physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional, vocational, and environmental. The Director collaborates across departments and levels of care to deliver high-quality experiences, serves as a liaison to Independent Living residents, and promotes a culture of purposeful living, engagement, and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Experience in health services, human services, or community services required.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to hire, supervise, and manage staff.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to design and implement engaging, resident-centered programming.
  • Understanding of Life Plan Community (LPC) operations, including governance and financial structures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and sound judgment.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive, community-wide life enrichment program aligned with the organization’s mission.
  • Design and implement diverse programming that supports all dimensions of wellness and promotes successful aging.
  • Lead planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of programs and services.
  • Foster creativity and innovation in all aspects of life enrichment programming.
  • Build strong relationships with residents and serve as a primary liaison for Independent Living.
  • Communicate Resident Handbook guidelines and address concerns or corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure new residents are welcomed, informed, and actively engaged in community life.
  • Promote resident satisfaction through feedback collection, implementation of suggestions, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Partner closely with Culinary, Marketing, and other departments to enhance programming and community events.
  • Collaborate with higher levels of care (HLOC) to ensure a cohesive, community-wide programming approach.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, including churches, educators, and volunteers.
  • Work with the Partnership Council to manage social accountability initiatives and community engagement.
  • Support and guide the Chaplain in delivering robust spiritual life programming.
  • Ensure continuity of care through hospital visits and strong community partnerships.
  • Oversee operations of: Hair salons and boutique (including vendor management, budgeting, and resident charges) Transportation services (ensuring safety, efficiency, and satisfaction)
  • Negotiate vendor and service contracts annually in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Research and implement new service providers to enhance offerings and manage costs.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for Life Enrichment, Salon/Boutique, Fitness, and Transportation.
  • Monitor expenses and prepare monthly variance reports and P&L statements for salon and boutique operations.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff, including conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, direction, and support to team members.
  • Promote team engagement, participation, and professional development.
  • Ensure completion of required training, including Relias and annual in-service education.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, including: Monthly activity calendars Budget and inventory records Resident Council and committee meeting minutes
  • Ensure understanding of Residency and Services Agreements to address resident and family inquiries.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Support marketing initiatives to achieve occupancy goals and grow the Futures list.
  • Contribute to positive community relations and brand awareness.
  • Participate in new hire orientation, including hospitality training.
  • Maintain Resident Life display cabinets and support community archives and library initiatives.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for residents and staff.
  • Participate in the Manager on Duty rotation, including weekends and on-call responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
