About The Position

This is a unique opportunity to join a prominent non-profit organization as a Resident Services Coordinator at Farnsworth House, a 75-unit subsidized HUD 202 HAP property in Jamaica Plain. The Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) is responsible for the general well-being of the residents, working closely with the Property Manager to foster a spirit of community, volunteerism, and mutual aid. The RSC assists residents in obtaining necessary services to live independently with dignity for as long as possible, serving as a vital link to families and community resources that support independent living.

Requirements

  • College degree in a relevant field or a college degree and a minimum of two years of prior relevant experience or three years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to earn the confidence and develop sound relationships with the broadest spectrum of residents, while maintaining a professional work ethic.
  • Demonstrated integrity on a personal and professional level.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic familiarity with word processing software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate, organize, problem-solve, and provide results for elderly and disabled residents.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of supportive services and other resources for senior citizens and non-elderly disabled in the area.
  • Sensitivity to aging, disabled, and diverse populations.
  • Experience working with a community services network.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Strong interest in working as a member of a staff team.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new residents and explain the resident services program, its offerings, and the RSC role in providing information and support for accessing local service resources.
  • Provide individual case management for residents, including information and referral, assessment, coordination of community services, crisis intervention, and other support.
  • Help set a tone of inclusion and non-discrimination within the resident community.
  • Identify, assess, select, develop, and maintain referral partnership relationships with local service resource agencies.
  • Provide supportive linkages between residents and referral agency staff when assistance is requested, and document these efforts.
  • Refer lease violations to the Property Manager and collaborate with the property management team when a resident is at risk of eviction.
  • Offer linkages and referral support to residents to positively and quickly rectify situations, documenting these efforts.
  • Conduct all business in accordance with Rogerson’s policies and procedures, Fair Housing, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other Federal and States laws.
  • Maintain emergency information cards and case files on all residents, documenting all service contacts and keeping information confidential.
  • Assess and maintain regular contact with frail or at-risk individuals, communicating with families and health/home care providers.
  • Coordinate educational and health programming within the community.
  • Access resources to benefit residents by developing positive working relationships with community agencies, health/home care providers, and senior organizations, arranging for participation in service programs.
  • Work closely with the Property Manager and Administrative Assistant with annual recertification and waitlist updates.
  • Orient new residents to the building, apartment, social opportunities, and resident programs, and meet with new residents within a month of move-in to answer questions and review house rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
