About The Position

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Senior Resident Project Representative or Senior Construction Inspector to oversee and inspect utility/infrastructure construction projects in the Greater Boston area of Massachusetts. Construction includes installing multiple utility systems in a congested urban environment. This position offers meaningful long-term professional development within a dedicated and supportive team of experienced engineering and construction management professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction related field.
  • 10+ years of experience with horizontal construction of water/sewer/drain systems and related work.
  • Experience with general construction inspection policies, procedures, and administrative requirements.
  • Working knowledge and experience with interpreting contract documents, including compliance with prevailing safety regulations.
  • Excellent public relations, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational/time management skills.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain electronic field records efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to work well with contractors, engineers, municipal representatives, and residents/business owners.
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinate consultant field staff.
  • Review and evaluate Contractor’s work schedules and updates with the Project Manager.
  • Assess current and near-term construction activities to identify and provide input on potential technical, schedule, budget, and communication challenges.
  • Coordinate with abutters, the client, and office/design engineers.
  • Assist the Project Manager and the client with negotiating claims for extra work/change orders.
  • Attend regular site meetings
  • Confirm the Contractor’s work complies with shop drawings, RFI’s, change orders and other agreed upon construction modifications
  • Measure quantities of in-place work, observe quality of construction, and prepare daily records of construction work
  • Record and report problems and failures to comply with contract documents.
  • Review Contractor’s monthly payment estimates
  • Maintain positive relationships with the client, municipal and utility owner representatives, and contractors.
