About The Position

Community of Hope is seeking a reliable, friendly, and professional Resident Monitor to join their Short-Term Family Housing program. This essential staff member will be responsible for ensuring building security, greeting residents and visitors, and reporting any concerns to the appropriate team members. The role is mission-driven, aiming to make a difference in the lives of families and individuals needing healthcare, housing, and community support services. This position is located at The Aya in Southwest DC.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Ability to utilize computer software such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Mail.
  • Ability to act responsibly, professionally, and use good judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to write shift and incident reports in detail.
  • Ability to de-ice the front walkway by salting and shoveling the front area when inclement weather occurs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as designated by their supervisor, including evenings and weekends and at various Community of Sites.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor community areas within the building, including the lobby, phone room, and exterior areas, to prevent loitering and conduct rounds throughout the building.
  • Monitor security cameras for activity in and around the building and address issues as needed.
  • Ensure visitors, volunteers, outside agency representatives, and residents are signed in and out, documenting staff arrivals and departures in the shift log.
  • Check for photo ID of all visitors and provide traffic control to limit lobby crowding.
  • Complete curfew checks each night by knocking on unit doors and documenting who is present, inquiring about the whereabouts of children if they are not present.
  • Email and/or call the Program Director and/or Case Manager regarding outside agency visits (Police, CFSA, Social Services, probation and parole, case workers, etc.).
  • Fill out incident reports to document unusual or difficult incidents involving residents, facility issues, fire, rescue, and other emergencies, and email them immediately to the Program Director or On-Call Supervisor.
  • Offer additional assistance to residents as needed or requested, in accordance with Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, at all times and during emergencies.
  • Provide access to the building by screening individuals who ring the call button, processing visitors by checking their ID, having them sign in, and contacting appropriate COH staff for escort.
  • Monitor Closed Circuit TV security footage and immediately report and respond to all suspected or apparent security violations by notifying SPO and Program Director and/or calling emergency services.
