About The Position

This position works with the Resident Maintenance Engineer on major projects, assisting with planning, organizing, supervising, and inspecting. The role involves investigating complaints and assisting with the implementation of the county's emergency plan for hazardous weather and other emergencies. The Foreman supervises foremen and/or crews in various maintenance activities, investigates, and recommends corrective actions for damage to SCDOT or private property. This role also communicates with local officials, administrators, and the general public regarding field complaints, conducts monthly foreman meetings, and monitors equipment utilization. Additionally, the Foreman supervises crews in general repairs and upkeep of buildings and grounds, addresses environmental deficiencies, and reviews/maintains reports, time sheets, and cost records. The position also involves recommending personnel actions and rating employees annually. Performs other related job duties as directed by supervisor, including on-call for after-hour emergencies.

Requirements

Five (5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

Works with the Resident Maintenance Engineer on major projects.
Assists with planning, organizing, supervising and inspecting.
Investigates complaints.
Assist with the implementation of the county's emergency plan for hazardous weather and other emergencies.
Supervises foremen and/or crews in various maintenance activities.
Investigates, and/or recommend corrective actions in connection with damage to SCDOT or private property, which are complex in nature.
Communicates with local officials, administrators and general public on field complaints as directed by Resident Maintenance Engineer and Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer.
Conducts monthly foreman meeting and other meetings in conjunction with the Resident Maintenance Engineer.
Monitors equipment utilization and redistributes equipment as needed to maximize utilization for unit.
Supervises crews in general repairs and upkeep of building and grounds in addition to addressing environmental deficiencies with assistance from any available crews.
Reviews and/or maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets and cost records; recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures; rates employees yearly according to the Employee Performance Management System.
Performs other related job duties as directed by supervisor, including on call for after hour emergencies.
