About The Position

This is an active role performed both inside and outside the home, requiring the ability to lift and transfer 70-75lbs. The Resident Instructor will work with youth who may potentially cause harm, utilizing approved protective hold techniques to ensure safety. The position involves creating a positive learning environment, developing coping strategies for clients facing stressful situations, and facilitating independent performance. A key aspect is demonstrating sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic events, providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment. The role requires implementing Treatment Plans or Individual Plans of Care, documenting progress, and reporting any barriers. Daily monitoring of clients' medical, physical, and behavioral changes is essential, with timely reporting to supervisors and relevant agencies. When medically certified, the instructor will administer medication, document its administration, and report any errors. Following behavioral and dietary plans, assisting with meal preparation and supply purchasing are also responsibilities. Maintaining the cleanliness of the home, laundry care, and vehicle maintenance are part of the role. Upholding client privacy and confidentiality is paramount. Professional conduct is expected in all interactions. The position may involve supervising family visitations, participating in mandatory training, and conducting community-based outings. Other work-related duties as assigned by management are also included.

Requirements

Valid CT driver's license and a good driving record.
Physical Management Training (PMT).
First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification (CPR and FA within 45 days of hire; Medication Administration Certification within 4 months of hire).
Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
Thoroughness and effective follow-through on daily work assignments.
Display motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
Demonstrate and maintain an optimistic attitude, patience, and compassion for and with the population served.
Demonstrate appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers maintaining a professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree preferred.
At least one year of experience in the Human Services field.

Responsibilities

Perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring 70-75lbs.
Utilize approved protective hold techniques to ensure safety for self, clients, and co-workers.

Demonstrate sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic and emotional events.
Implement Treatment Plan (DCF) or Individual Plan of Care (DDS) based on assessments.
Record data on teaching strategies, behavior systems, and plans; report client progress, needs, and barriers.
Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients daily and report to appropriate personnel.
Document issues in clients' files and report to DCF/DDS as required.
Administer medication to clients as prescribed, following policy and documenting administration.
Follow written behavioral and dietary plans for each client.
Assist in the preparation of meals and purchasing of supplies.
Maintain the cleanliness of the home (inside and outside) and assist with laundry care.
Maintain the cleanliness of the agency vehicle and report any maintenance needs.
Maintain client right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policy.
Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with supervisors, coworkers, clients, families, and the community.
Supervise family visitation as assigned.
Participate in mandatory training, including in-services, staff meetings, and conferences.
Take clients to community-based outings and recreational activities using an agency vehicle.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
