About The Position

The Resident Engineer (RE) is a highly technical, customer‑facing role providing post‑sales, on‑site technical support for Juniper Networks products/solutions deployed within Charter Communications (Spectrum). This role partners closely with Charter’s Network Engineering, Architecture, and Operations teams to ensure high availability, scalability, and operational excellence across large‑scale service provider networks. The Resident Engineer develops deep technical expertise in the Juniper products deployed (and planned for deployment) within Charter’s network and delivers reactive and proactive operational support, design guidance, and best‑practice recommendations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands‑on design, deployment, and operational experience in large‑scale service provider or MSO networks.
  • Experience in supporting major network transformations, upgrades, or expansions.
  • Strong experience with JUNOS CLI.
  • Large‑scale hands‑on experience with: MX, QFX, EX, ACX and PTX platforms
  • Strong understanding of service provider networking technologies, including: TCP/IP and MPLS fundamentals Routing protocols: OSPF, IS‑IS, BGP MPLS‑TE, RSVP, LDP IPv4 / IPv6 BGP routing policy and peering VPN technologies: L3VPN, VPLS, MVPN Ethernet switching, 802.1Q QoS / Class of Service
  • Hands‑on experience with Scripting – Python and Juniper PyEZ.
  • Ability to design automation solutions that integrate with existing operational workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills during high‑pressure outage or escalation scenarios.
  • Ability to present complex technical topics to engineering, operations, and executive audiences.
  • Strong customer‑facing skills with a collaborative, consultative approach.
  • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into practical, scalable network solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day post‑sales operational support for production and pre‑production Charter network environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, and network issues across large‑scale IP/MPLS infrastructures.
  • Open, manage, and drive Juniper JTAC cases to resolution, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support Charter during critical incidents, outages, and escalation scenarios, communicating clearly with engineering, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Conduct network information‑gathering workshops to understand Charter’s current network architecture, operational workflows, and future design requirements.
  • Become deeply familiar with Charter’s organizational structure, engineering standards, and operational procedures.
  • Provide guidance on network design evolution, capacity growth, and technology adoption aligned with Charter’s roadmap.
  • Assist with major network upgrades, maintenance windows, migrations, and change events.
  • Produce clear, concise written reports detailing project progress, network health assessments, identified issues, and remediation activities.
  • Lead technology and operations workshops to review ongoing issues and JTAC case status and explain root causes, mitigations, and long‑term solutions.
  • Train Charter engineering, implementation, and operations teams on configuration, monitoring and day‑to‑day operation of Juniper Networks platforms.
  • Assess overall network health and stability across Juniper‑based environments.
  • Develop and maintain fault isolation and diagnostic procedures.
  • Create and review customer SOPs and MOPs to identify procedural gaps or anomalies that could result in network or service outages.
  • Contribute to best‑practice policies and standards for Juniper product usage within Charter.
  • Peer with other Resident Engineers to share lessons learned and reduce risk during network changes.
  • Develop secondary expertise across additional Juniper product lines as required.
  • Perform lab testing, certification, and integration of new hardware and major software releases prior to production deployment.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts to reduce operational toil, improve consistency and accuracy, and accelerate troubleshooting and provisioning.
  • Write and support Python‑based automation tools for configuration validation, health checks.
  • Assist Charter engineering and operations teams in adopting network automation tools.
  • Contribute to documentation and internal tooling repositories supporting ongoing automation initiatives.
