About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has a broad mandate and is committed to maintaining and improving New Brunswick’s public infrastructure. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s mission is to contribute to New Brunswick’s economy and quality of life by providing and supporting sustainable infrastructure that allows for the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and government services to the public. The department is responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, and also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings. As part of the Public-Private Partnerships (P3) Management Branch, successful candidates will play an important role in supporting long‑term Operations, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation (OMR) agreements for several of New Brunswick’s key transportation assets. Your roll will involve conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with contractual requirements related to quality, safety, environment and other performance standards.

Requirements

  • University degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience including experience in highway construction standards and practices, administering and interpreting contracts.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) or Registered as a Professional Engineer with a Canadian regulatory body.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required.

  • Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems and Auditing practices and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of highway construction concepts.
  • Ability to understand complex legal agreements.
  • Understanding of various ASTM and CSA highway construction standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performing audits on the Operator’s Quality, Environmental, and Safety Management Systems as well as occasional audits of the highway facility. Audits are written up and uploaded to the audit database.
  • Chairing meetings that reviews issues found in audits and responses from the Operators.
  • Reviewing submittals from Operators for compliance and data collection.
  • Drafting official correspondence.
