About The Position

The Resident Director provides leadership and operational oversight for a residential community, fostering a safe and educational living environment that supports student success. The position is responsible for the effective management of residence hall operations, student engagement, staff supervision, and community standards while serving as a primary resource for students, faculty, and university partners. The Resident Director promotes student development, responds to community needs, and ensures the consistent implementation of housing policies, procedures, and university expectations. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working as a resident assistant or in a live-in housing position.
  • Demonstrated ability to create strong communities in a Residence Hall setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in emotionally charged situations.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise students.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year experience using StarRez housing software.
  • At least one (1) year supervision of students in a housing environment.
  • At least one (1) year experience serving at a resident director level for duty responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management of an assigned residence hall community.
  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and educational residential environment that supports student learning, personal growth, and well-being.
  • Build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success and community engagement.
  • Exercise sound judgment in responding to student concerns, behavioral issues, emergencies, and other situations requiring professional intervention.
  • Oversee residence hall operations, including administrative processes, business practices, resource management, and the consistent application of housing policies and procedures.
  • Supervise, guide, and support student staff and contribute to their training, development, and performance.
  • Plan, promote, and support educational, social, and community-building programs that enhance the residential experience.
  • Monitor and address the conduct and activities of individuals and groups within the residence hall, ensuring compliance with university policies and community standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and communication in accordance with departmental expectations.
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership to resolve complex or unique situations and ensure consistent operations across residence halls.
  • Demonstrate a visible and engaged presence within the residential community, responding appropriately to student and operational needs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission and goals of University Housing.
