About The Position

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise invites applicants for a Resident Counselor position. The Resident Counselor is a full-time, 12 month (year-round), resident licensed position within The Counseling Center. The Resident Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling.

Requirements

  • Resident licensed position
  • Full-time, 12 month (year-round)
  • Must submit necessary application and supporting materials to the Virginia Board of Counseling for Resident Licensure.
  • Must complete a 3400-hour residency in accordance with regulations set forth by the Virginia Board of Counseling.
  • Must participate in one-on-one supervision with the Director of Counseling each week.
  • Must pass the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination.
  • Must serve on the after-hours on-call rotation for crisis intervention for UVA Wise students.
  • Must attend weekly Counseling Center staff meetings.
  • Must provide psycho-educational, awareness, and prevention programs to the campus community.
  • Must provide counseling services to the student population, including: Assessments, Clinical treatment, Diagnosis, Treatment Planning, and Implementation, Walk-in services, Referral services to appropriate community resources for medication evaluations, specialty services, and/or private practitioners.
  • Must provide consultation and referral services to the staff/faculty population on an as needed basis.
  • Must participate in professional development activities.
  • Must maintain membership(s) in appropriate professional organizations and associations as well as annual state licensure requirements.
  • Must maintain a positive relationship with local community agencies to promote and utilize referral resources.
  • Must function as a member of Student Affairs team in consultation, special projects, and daily interactions.
  • Must complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling.
  • Employee fulfills duties as a “responsible employee” under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
