About The Position

Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) is seeking a Resident Counselor for their C&Y (Children & Youth) program. This role involves actively engaging psychiatric consumers during their stay in EPS Treatment programs to intervene and problem-solve during crisis episodes. The counselor will maintain continuous contact with consumers, complete required paperwork, and advocate for consumer needs such as Social Security benefits, TennCare, Food Stamps, and housing. They will also assist consumers in understanding their diagnosis and medication with the help of nursing staff, and support them in seeking resolution to their crisis and reintegrating into their support systems. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, or social work.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Investigation

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment free of sharps and other potentially harmful objects.
  • Participate in cross-training in all EPS Treatment programs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in taking vital signs.
  • Assist nursing with UDS, obtaining, and interpretation.
  • Work collaboratively with MCRT staff.
  • Follow Universal Precautions policies and procedures.
  • Make Customer Service a priority with internal and external customers.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and consumers.
  • Maintain flexibility in the workplace.
  • Attend team meetings, supervision, and training as required.
  • Search the personal belongings of each consumer entering EPS Treatment programs.
  • Discuss precipitating events and possible alternatives with each consumer.
  • Monitor consumer behavior, level of cooperation, and ability to remain safe while in EPS Treatment programs.
