The branch is dedicated to ensuring that existing campuses are modernized and repaired in support of the education and safety of our students and staff utilizing cost efficient and sustainable materials.

Requirements

  • PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation. Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities may not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or business administration. Possession of a valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential may be substituted for the required education.
  • Five years experience in project/construction management of commercial and/or public/educational facility construction with full responsibility for coordinating complex projects ranging in construction value from $8M and above is required.
  • For the purpose of this selection process, the term "full responsibility" is interpreted to mean MANAGING complex projects including at least 5 yearsof being primarily responsible for ALL of the following activities.
  • Preconstruction planning including constructability reviews, preparing bid and award documents, estimating and construction scheduling.
  • Reviewing contracts for construction including negotiating change orders and managing on-site construction.
  • Obtaining appropriate approvals from governing agencies (i.e. Division of the State Architect), deliver of completed construction projects to operations, and closing out projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS)
  • Experience with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction/design processes
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer by the California State Board of Registration of Civil and Professional Engineers
  • A valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI)
  • A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of California and the use of a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, oversees and coordinates all facets of the construction phase of a school facility project including mobilization, construction, and closeout.
  • Plans, organizes, directs and reports project management activities and progress to upper management.
  • Coordinates with all pertinent public agencies during construction to comply with all off-site work.
  • Manages both the project budget and schedule to meet the District’s qualitative standards.
  • Performs day-to-day contract administration including assisting the Senior Project Managers in bid analysis, pre-construction meetings and related award coordinating activities.
