The Resident Care Assistant is responsible for performing duties to enhance the quality of services provided for residents; accompanying residents to external appointments; comforting residents; supervising residents, documenting what they do day to day. This role involves receiving assignments from a supervisor, taking reports from previous shifts, and providing reports to the next shift regarding resident status and any special events or incidents. The assistant will regularly check on residents, respond promptly to call lights, and follow through with resident needs, either by providing care or reporting to a leader. They are responsible for documenting incidents, maintaining knowledge of resident needs, noting significant changes in condition, and responding to emergencies. The role also includes explaining procedures to residents, welcoming new residents, assisting with personalization of rooms, and ensuring a comfortable environment. Maintaining good public relations with residents, families, and guests, showing empathy, and observing resident safety needs are crucial. The assistant will help residents with personal care, encourage independence, prepare residents for bed, and provide special care for those in casts or traction. Assisting with physical needs like eating, transferring residents, and preparing them for meals are also key duties. This includes checking meal trays, serving food, assisting residents who need help eating, and offering substitutes. Delivering nourishment and water between meals, monitoring supply inventory, and utilizing supplies and equipment properly are part of the daily tasks. Maintaining cleanliness of resident units and common areas, changing beds, handling soiled and clean linen, and assisting with transportation to and from activities are also expected. The role may involve performing other assigned duties.
