About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, assists residents with activities of daily living and personal care to maximize independence, freedom of choice and quality of life. Understands the Mission, Vision and Values of Masonicare.

Requirements

  • Post High School Vocational / Specialized Training
  • 1 year of CNA experience preferred
  • Current State of Connecticut CNA certificate
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • Valid CT Driver's License
  • Read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to interact with all types of individuals
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet individual resident care needs
  • Ability to read resident care plans, document resident condition and enter data onto appropriate logs/forms or enter information into computer database

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance with essential activities of daily living and personal care to residents based on age, needs and abilities of the resident: bathing; dressing and undressing; ambulating; toileting; assistance with meals and nourishment's; personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail, hair and foot care); transferring using proper body mechanics and appropriate assistive devices; and care of ADL devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids.
  • Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living to residents based on age, needs and abilities of the resident: placing and/or receiving telephone calls; performing light housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning bathroom, bed making and bed changes; assisting with laundry; escorting the resident and coordinating internal transportation needs; assisting with mail delivery and correspondence.
  • Assists the resident with self-administration of medications, through cueing only.
  • Observes and reports changes in the residents' physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to ALSA Licensed Nurses as needed; conducts room checks on resident rounds; monitors for environmental safety hazards; records incidents, errors or accidents; records resident and resident related events.
  • Assists in a variety of tasks related to dining (escorting residents, set-up and clean-up, serving meals).
  • Responsible for participating in and supporting the resident centered activity program.
  • Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Is a resident advocate at all times; follows Masonicare policy concerning confidentiality; plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor; works collaboratively with colleagues; uses tactful, diplomatic communication in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations; follows up with appropriate staff, resident or others regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns; acts as ambassador to guest and other off-campus visitors; and maintains certifications required for employment.
  • Completes required written documentation concerning resident care and activities during shift.
  • Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process; attends and participates in staff, educational and committee meetings to update knowledge, techniques, guidelines and regulations; assists with quality assurance programs; and assists with orientation and training of new staff.
  • Provides care and services that demonstrate behaviors and the principles of person-centered care including affording people dignity, respect and compassion, offering coordinated care, support and treatment and care that is personalized.
