About The Position

Modern Family Law (MFL) is seeking 3Ls and recent graduates to participate in its MFL Academy’s Residency Program in Colorado. This hybrid role requires candidates to sit for the Colorado Bar exam and reside within a reasonable commute to one of the firm's Colorado offices (Denver, Colorado Springs, or Fort Collins). The Residency Program provides training in substantive family law and courtroom advocacy, with mentorship from the MFL Learning & Development department and legal teams. Upon passing the Bar, residents transition to an MFL Associate Attorney position. The firm offers a remote-first setting with available office space, a low billable hours requirement (100 per month) for Associate Attorneys, direct client contact, case management in divorce, child custody, and financial support matters, opportunities for first-chair litigation experience, access to technology, ongoing learning and development, and transparent advancement tracks.

Requirements

  • 3Ls and recent graduates sitting for the February 2027 Bar exam or the July 2027 Bar exam.
  • Must sit for the Colorado Bar (no UBE score transfer).
  • Plan to reside within a reasonable commute to the office location.
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Register for the upcoming February or July 2027 Bar exam.
  • Attain a passing score on the MPRE before sitting for the Bar exam.
  • Timely submission and approval of Character & Fitness application by the State Bar.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Family Law Clinics is a plus.
  • Mock Trial experience is a plus.
  • Submission of cover letter, law school transcript, and responses to candidate questionnaire.

Responsibilities

  • Receive training in substantive family law and courtroom advocacy.
  • Receive mentorship from the MFL Learning & Development department and legal teams.
  • Successfully transition to an MFL Associate Attorney position upon passing the Bar.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities with attention to detail in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Work as part of a team in a respectful and growth-oriented environment.
  • Complete training and develop skills in client conversion.
  • Proactively study, build confidence, ask questions, complete assignments, and prepare to handle client matters from start to finish upon completion of Residency.
