About The Position

Resident Assistant at the Shelter will put customer service skills to use by being responsible for the supervision of residents and the general management of the program. They will ensure a safe, secure, comfortable and supportive environment for the residents and their families at the Emergency Family Shelter. As an Emergency Shelter "RA" they will utilize creative and leadership skills by coaching residents on program policies and rules as well as potential consequences for violation of program rules. There may be times where they are helping a resident with basic needs such as laundry, housekeeping and general clean-up and then there could be a time where conflict resolution, crisis intervention and supportive counseling is needed. The Emergency Family Shelter is here to help people who are in need.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Up to Two years of experience internship/working in human services.
  • Experience working in office environment;
  • Clerical skills to include: phone etiquette, filing, computer skills required, ability to manage several tasks and projects

Nice To Haves

  • Associated degree with one year of experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness is preferred.
  • Knowledge of social service resources in the local community

Responsibilities

  • Supervise shelter residents and ensure compliance with program policies while providing guidance and support.
  • Provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and supportive counseling as needed.
  • Welcome new families, complete intakes, and assist with meeting immediate basic needs.
  • Support Case Managers by encouraging residents' progress toward individual service plans and independent living goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case notes, HMIS data entry, shift logs, and other required records.
  • Complete daily operational tasks, answer phones, provide referrals, and communicate maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Monitor facility safety systems, maintain house operations, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings, assist with training new employees, and perform other duties as assigned.
