About The Position

The Resident Assistant (RA) will provide essential overnight coverage and supervision. This position is responsible for the welfare, safety and comfort, as well as daily support to the residents. The RA will provide crisis intervention to callers seeking shelter, advice or referrals. The RA is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment during overnight hours, monitoring residents, providing support as needed, and ensuring that breakfast is prepared and served each morning.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
At least one (1) year of related work experience in direct service, preferably working in a residential shelter services environment
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Ability to respond to physical emergencies, including immediate evacuation of campus buildings and potential client medical and behavior situations
Successful completion of background checks is required upon hire
Strong conflict resolution and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergencies.

Nice To Haves

additional education or experience in social services preferred
ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain (preferred for meal preparation responsibilities)

Responsibilities

Ensure the safety and security of the shelter and the residents by enforcing house rules and conducting inspections during shift and reporting incidents by following protocols
Assist in conducting comprehensive initial screening process to determine eligibility for program services, providing assessment, intake and enrollment where appropriate
Conduct new resident orientation to ensure understanding of the rules, policies and procedures
Work collaboratively with volunteers assigned to work in the residential area
Drive agency van to transport clients to other services as needed
Maintain client files and data
Ensure the safety and security of residents during overnight hours by conducting regular checks and monitoring the premises.
Address and de-escalate any issues or emergencies that arise during the shift.
Provide support and guidance to residents as needed, fostering a compassionate and respectful environment.
Maintain accurate logs and documentation of overnight activities, including any incidents or resident concerns.
Enforce program rules and policies while maintaining empathy and understanding.
Support residents with their nightly routines and any urgent needs.
Ensure breakfast is prepared and served to all residents each morning in accordance with health and safety standards.
Coordinate with kitchen staff or volunteers, as applicable, to provide nutritious and timely meals.
Complete nightly reports and communicate any concerns or updates to the daytime staff.
Assist with intake or discharge processes as required during overnight hours.
Conduct regular checks to ensure cleanliness and orderliness in common areas.
Report maintenance issues or facility concerns to the appropriate staff.
