About The Position

Hope Solutions seeks a dedicated Resident Assistant to support the mission of the Tiny Village Spirit Program, which provides housing and community for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. We are looking for compassionate, service-minded individuals who are flexible, responsive, and committed to fostering dignity and stability for our residents. The ideal candidate believes in the power of community, connection, and second chances. The Resident Assistant plays a vital role in Tiny Village's daily operations and community wellness, offering on-site support, conflict resolution, safety monitoring, and encouraging positive resident engagement. This position collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team to uphold community agreements and ensure a respectful, inclusive, and supportive living environment. The Resident Assistant will also assist with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the grounds, facilitate access to basic resources, and help build a strong village culture grounded in trust and mutual respect. Please note: The Resident Assistant will be expected to live on-site, and rent will be included in the overall compensation package. Ongoing housing will be tied to employment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional training in social services, mental health, or related fields is a plus.
  • Experience in supportive roles such as social work, counseling, case management, or direct service with vulnerable populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Collaborative team player, comfortable working across disciplines and with community partners.
  • Steady under pressure with sound judgment in high-stress or crises.
  • Familiarity with "Housing First" principles and trauma-informed care.
  • Passion for serving vulnerable populations, especially individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and client database systems.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid California driver’s license, and current auto insurance; county-wide travel required.
  • Must pass LiveScan background check and TB screening.
  • The person in this position may make home visits to consumers and will need to be able to climb stairs.
  • May accompany consumers on walks to local resources (grocery store, childcare, parks) up to ½ mile in distance.
  • Must be able to work in a desk setting for up to 3 hours at a time to make calls to consumers, research resources on the internet, and collaborate with community providers with calls/emails.
  • Office setting activities are required, such as typing on a laptop/computer to respond to emails, entering case notes into a database, and copying/faxing forms and documents on a copy machine related to maintaining or obtaining housing.
  • Occasionally must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including furnishings for new residents, files, holiday gifts, and food donations.
  • Ability to drive an automobile and transport oneself and consumers to appointments or meet at consumer homes, including driving at night.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the overall safety and security of the Tiny Village community by monitoring resident activity, protecting personal belongings, and maintaining shared spaces.
  • Uphold and reinforce village policies and emergency procedures, including conducting fire drills and responding to crises as needed.
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming common areas and living spaces to support a healthy, dignified environment.
  • Provide support with daily living activities, including personal hygiene routines, meal preparation, and medication reminders, while promoting independence and self-agency.
  • Offer emotional support as needed and foster a culture of mutual respect, compassion, and personal growth among residents.
  • Act as a liaison between residents, program staff, and external service providers to ensure seamless communication and coordinated care.
  • Assist residents in navigating and accessing vital resources, including medical/mental health support, job readiness programs, and income/benefits assistance.
  • Organize social and recreational activities for residents.
  • Assist with the intake and orientation of new residents.
  • Awareness of and aptitude to understand, respect, and adapt to cultural and identity-based differences within group environments appropriately and effectively.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to concepts and issues tied to social justice.
  • Experience fostering and reinforcing an environment that values unique experiences, cultures, personal humility, authenticity, backgrounds, and goals.
  • Participate in and complete our new employee onboarding process, which includes reading and discussing a short chapter in the book, The Color of Law.
  • Review and commit to our Cultivate Accountability and Respect for Everyone (CARE) program.
  • Professionally represent Hope Solutions in all circumstances.
  • Comply with all legal/ethical professional guidelines for maintaining consumer confidentiality, adhering to HIPAA guidelines, protecting consumer rights, advocating on consumers’ behalf, and assuring consumer safety.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations and Hope Solutions policies and procedures.
  • Complete required administrative paperwork and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attend all required meetings, including but not limited to Hope Solutions staff meetings, team meetings, consumer case conferences, and linkage meetings with other agencies.
  • Complete required personnel-related paperwork and complete expenditure reports for food supplies, petty cash expenses, and/or mileage in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Document all services provided in a timely manner.
  • Assist with data generation for reports and funding applications as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • On-call, after-hours, and backup work may be required.
