This position provides individualized attention to residents, aiming to help them attain and maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. The Resident Assistant is knowledgeable about each resident's care plan and provides support accordingly. They contribute to the care planning process by sharing observations and information about resident needs and preferences with the nursing staff. The role involves assisting residents with daily living activities, maintaining their comfort and dignity, and ensuring the confidentiality of their information. Responsibilities include preparing and serving meals, documenting care, reporting changes in resident condition, and ensuring resident rights are upheld. The position also involves monitoring for safety hazards, recording incidents, and administering medications according to facility policy, including narcotic medications which require two staff sign-offs. The Resident Assistant must honor a resident's right to refuse care and report such instances. They are responsible for maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment, checking on residents who may need assistance, and promptly reporting any changes in condition or behavior to the licensed nurse. Additional duties include checking vital signs, weighing residents, assisting with resident and family orientation upon admission, and helping residents with mobility. The role requires effective communication and adherence to safety and infection control policies, including proper hand washing and use of personal protective equipment. Attendance at mandatory training is required to maintain certification.
