About The Position

Shelter House is a community of residents, staff and volunteers working together to provide basic human services for the men and women of the Greater Cincinnati area who are experiencing homelessness. The Resident Aid is responsible for overall resident care during shelter stay.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • 1 year customer service experience
  • Knowledge or experience in working with the homeless, mentally ill, and/or substance abusing populations
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to be proactive
  • Ability to work in a high energy environment
  • Ability to de-escalate situations when they start to get out of hand
  • Ability to check one's emotions when clients become rude or disrespectful

Responsibilities

  • Making security rounds to ensure that clients are not violating policy and/or using while in the shelter.
  • Assisting clients in all programs (VA, RRH, HIPP) during their stay at the shelter, helping to connect them to resources as needed.
  • Performing bed checks and bed assignments.
  • Ensuring that chores are being done by chore workers and if they are not, finding a replacement worker.
  • Performing A/D outreach for clients struggling with addiction.
  • Recording RA encounters for each client in VESTA, which includes noting information about the interaction with the client.
  • Providing residents with emotional support during their stay.
  • Enforcing Shelter policies.
  • Administering NARCAN when necessary.
  • Administering first aid when necessary.
  • Overseeing meals by ensuring that clients are getting meals, that order is kept during meal time, and that clean-up is completed by clients assigned to the kitchen chore.
