About The Position

Connective is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative programming in the social services sector. We strive to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all. In this position you provide various support to clients within a residential setting to meet the clients emotional, personal and physical needs. We designed this position to foster learning of its incumbent and will provide hands-on learning opportunities. Our Individualized Community Living Residential programs are designed to offer a person-centered and structured living environment for adults. These individualized residential programs focus on monitoring residents for safe community living. The residents can acquire the skills needed to become responsible, independent, and contributing members of society, all within the program policies, procedures and individuals care plan.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Post-Secondary educational background in Social Services/Criminology/Psychology
  • Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship
  • Meet all the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Grant
  • Professional or lived experience working with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check/Enhanced Security Clearance and reference checks
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning - such as Personal Service Plans - for individuals living semi independently.
  • Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families.
  • Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, and pet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public.
  • Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property.
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
  • Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services.
