About The Position

SUMMARY: Provides the daily management and operations of one or more Residence Halls. May provide housing management and supervision for summer school and summer campus and conferences. Coordinates a variety of activities and programs for residential living and student living by performing the following duties. Other duties may be assigned as needed to best serve our student population. This is a 12-month live-in position. Location: Levelland Campus ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Hall Director position is a LIVE-ON Position, where the employee will reside in an apartment within the assigned residential community on the SPC Levelland Campus. Supervision: Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates Resident Assistants (RA) and additional hall staff, as needed. Holds weekly one-on-one meetings with the student staff in assigned halls. Fosters a developmental atmosphere for staff and facilitates life skill development opportunities. Directs activities and is responsible for one or more of the following areas: staff recruitment, staff training, residence life programming, staff recognition, residence hall association, and community service. Administration: Works five days a week on a set schedule as determined with supervisor(s), to best serve the student population and ensure visibility within the residential communities. Completes required building tasks such as weekly building walk-throughs, room checks, health and safety inspections and other duties. Attends weekly 1:1 meeting with supervisor. Participates in weekly Residence Life Meetings. Available to students, coworkers, faculty, and staff outside of office hours as necessary. Compiles records of daily activities of residents. Answers telephone, returns calls, retrieves mail for on campus post office, and sorts and distributes mail daily. Maintains professionalism through appropriate business attire, communication, and actions. Additional support in the housing/dean of student offices, during peak times. On-Call/Crisis Response: Participates in the Hall Director On-Call Duty Rotation, scheduled per semester. Acts as on campus resources for students. Records, handles, and reports appropriate student discipline, conflicts, and other issues. Is accessible during assigned on-call shifts by the department provided cell phone 24-hours per day (may include holiday breaks). Be available on a call-to-duty status whenever residence halls are in operation and assist Residence Life staff with residence hall and campus emergencies. Work with stakeholders, including the South Plains College Police Department and Student Counseling Center, to respond to student concerns or incidents within the residence halls. Ensure accurate reporting and provide follow-up as necessary with student and parent concerns. Provide extended support to summer on call and crisis response Building Management: Completes weekly room checks for each room in the residence halls under their supervision. Conducts health and safety checks as needed on a case-by-case basis. Reports maintenance needs and safety and security issues to Student Housing Office and/or other appropriate offices. Residential Development: Plans, assists, and participates in residential programming and recreational activities. Actively engages students in the residential and on campus settings. Participates in college related social, academic, and recreational events and activities. Assists residents in identifying and resolving social or other problems. Summer Operations: Supervises residential component of summer camps and conferences, as necessary. Collaborates with internal and external partners regarding summer needs Supports the New Student Orientation team to create a welcoming and inviting environment. Coordinates summer camps and conferences, serving as a primary point of contact with stakeholders. Serves as the on-call Hall Director to best support the needs of summer camps and conferences. Works with Upward Bound and serves as a point of contact Supervises Summer Resident Assistants. Assist with summer Walk-In tours Provides additional assistance in the housing office during peak times. Serves as the hall director for summer housing and summer school.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in related field plus 2 or more years hall staff experience; years of experience may be supplemental of degree requirement.
