About The Position

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a full-time, 10-month Residence Director to join the Office of Residence Life. This role involves managing the daily housing operations of a residential area, participating in an on-call rotation, and collaborating with student staff and residents to foster safe and inclusive communities aligned with the university's values of compassion, community, and collaboration. The Residence Director will live and work onsite, engaging with students and staff to build positive communities, promote learning initiatives, and support students throughout their college experience. This position has occasional after-hours and weekend responsibilities and operates on a 10-month annual schedule from August 1st to June 1st.

Requirements

  • 2+ Years of experience in Residence Life as a student or professional employee
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience having lived in an on-campus setting
  • Hold a valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Pursue relationships with residents in your area’s community to support their goals, needs, issues, and concerns.
  • Be a role model for students and staff observing the values and responsibilities of the position.
  • Implement strategies outlined in the ORL’s education plan within your community; collaborate with staff and campus partners to support our goals and outcomes.
  • Notify staff and students of necessary information and events throughout the year.
  • Create an inclusive environment that is beneficial to each student’s success.
  • Educate students about Code of Conduct policies, respond to crisis or emergency situations through departmental/university protocol as a part of the on-campus duty rotation.
  • Be a Hearing Officer for area’s conduct cases, provide educational sanctions to support personal and community development.
  • Work as a member of a professional staff team to collaborate and support community-based learning.
  • Supervise a team of Resident Assistants holding each accountable to our Performance Standards to promote individual success and development.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings and individual supervision meetings with RAs, implement and promote team development and other initiatives as a part of the ORL’s Education Plan.
  • Collaborate within the department by serving on committees, act as a liaison for campus partners; possibility to also serve on division/university-wide initiatives.
  • Coordinate training for professional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Participate in the selection process for staff members at all levels.
  • Assist students in their on-campus living experience through administrative tasks, including: ID card access, key assignments, room assignments and switches, room condition reports, and overall facilities management.
  • Work with housekeeping and other facilities staff to ensure the hall environment is safe and well-maintained.
  • Support all campus-wide housing processes including fall and spring semester move-ins and move-outs, break housing, and room selection.
