The Reserve Police Officer position is a volunteer role serving the community by dedicating time and effort towards creating a safer community. Reserve Police Officers perform the same duties as regular Police Officers but on a part-time volunteer basis. They receive compensation for court appearances, specific assignments approved by the Office of the Chief of Police, and may be eligible for a uniform allowance. This entry-level, non-sworn classification involves pre-academy training and participation in the police-training academy. Essential functions include ensuring Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and ethical standards, responding to calls for service, providing information and assistance to the public, administering first aid, interviewing witnesses and suspects, preparing reports, promoting community-based policing, apprehending suspects, enforcing traffic laws, investigating accidents, investigating juvenile matters, serving subpoenas and warrants, testifying in court, and marking/storing evidence. Officers may also drive on City business and are responsible for performing duties safely and efficiently.
