About The Position

This position falls under the Tribal Police Department for the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. The Reserve Patrolman shall be responsible for preventive patrol, crime prevention activities, response to calls for service, preliminary investigation of crimes and incidents, enforcement of Federal, State, and Tribal laws, the apprehension of offenders, traffic direction and control, traffic incident investigations, traffic law enforcement, maintenance of order, emergency services and other law enforcement duties as may be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain a HIGH level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Able to work under high stress.
  • Must have valid Oklahoma drivers’ license.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time performing repetitive work at the computer.
  • Some bending, stretching, and lifting.
  • English language necessary
  • Must possess the ability to work responsively with effective communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. With ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate their US work authorization during the employment verification process
  • Complete the Indian Police Academy and/or CLEET Basic Officer Certification
  • Required to pass a criminal background investigation and drug/alcohol test
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain personal composure while evaluating situations and act/react appropriately, use tact in dealing with business associates, staff, visitors, and tribal members in difficult situations.
  • Excellent management skills are essential.
  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear/listen.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading as well as standing.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance and computer and color vision.
  • Talking and hearing/listening are essential to communicate with tribal members/clients/staff and peers.
  • Constant deadlines associated with this position.
  • Must be able to multi-task and interact with a wide variety of people at various times and on complicated and diverse issues.
  • Fully uphold all principles of confidentiality
  • Adhere to all professional and ethical standards of the legal court system, must be compliant with the personnel policies.
  • Interact in an honest, trustworthy, and dependable manner with co-workers/clients.
  • Must be able to always maintain a professional demeanor and on any occasion wherein representing the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma.

Nice To Haves

  • Kickapoo language a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Kickapoo language is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned district (Pottawatomie, Lincoln, or Oklahoma County), or as a rover, and shall have primary responsibility for the area where he/she is assigned, unless unavailable.
  • Be familiar with the geography on Jurisdictional Boundaries of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma, and the patrol area to which he/she is assigned.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
