About The Position

This position requires a Peace Officer Certification through TCOLE and thorough knowledge of law enforcement procedures. The individual has daily contact with the public, is responsible for preparing offense reports, and responds to delegation of duties from the Constable. The Constable reserves the right to appoint qualified persons to any position within his or her department. The Constable on a case-by-case basis will review any applicant with a medical or physical disability, with a final decision made by the Constable.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Possess a thorough knowledge of law enforcement procedures and practices.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Basic Law Enforcement Certification with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (TCOLE).
• Must be able to meet TCOLE and Department requirements for psychological and medical examinations (physical and drug test).
• Must pass a written entrance exam and physical agility test if required by hiring Constable.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in law enforcement is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Bailiff the JP Courts.
• Serve Civil Process and Arrest Warrants.
• Make needed contact with defendants and complainants; handle and investigate crimes, arrest and book offenders into jail.
• Type letters, affidavits, and reports.
• Conduct traffic stops; and assist other agencies whenever needed.
• Summer tourism related law enforcement operations
• General Patrol Duties.
