About The Position

The Researcher independently leads advanced and technically complex research projects with significant national and international impact in support of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) collaboration and related high-energy physics research initiatives. This role develops research strategies, methodologies, experimental designs, instrumentation, and system-level solutions in collaboration with principal investigators and research leadership as appropriate. The Researcher ensures alignment of research objectives with organizational goals, collaborative research commitments, and applicable regulatory and safety requirements. Responsibilities include oversight of data collection, advanced statistical analysis, and interpretation of complex research results, as well as leadership of or contributions to the development, testing, operation, and upgrade of research infrastructure, instrumentation, and experimental systems integral to the research program. This position regularly contributes to high-impact publications, presentations, and dissemination of research findings and represents The Ohio State University within the U.S. CMS and international CMS collaborations. The Researcher collaborates extensively with faculty, students, technical staff, and international research partners to advance research initiatives and support long-term research sustainability efforts. The position operates with a high degree of independence while coordinating complex projects across multi-institutional research teams and shared research facilities.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience as demonstrated by one of the following: Three (3) years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree OR Five (5) years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree
  • Advanced knowledge of high-energy physics concepts, principles, instrumentation, and data analysis methodologies supporting technically complex research initiatives.
  • Experience working with cutting-edge research methods and collaborative research environments utilized by the CMS experiment.
  • Ability to apply specialized high-energy physics instrumentation and data analysis knowledge in support of advanced research activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral experience in high-energy physics research.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors for fabrication and assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Experience collaborating with CMS partners worldwide to support installation, commissioning, and operation of advanced detector systems deployed at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
