About The Position

The Researcher/Scientist III candidate will study oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV), including key translational and fundamental aspects related to the development of HPV-associated malignancies. This will involve developing assays for assessing bio-specimens for HPV viability and transmissibility, with potential for additional applications. The role also includes fundamental research on the molecular genetics of HPV in relation to malignancy induction and factors influencing the conversion from latent infection in epithelial and lymphoid tissues to frank malignancy. Furthermore, the position will investigate oncogenic HPV infection in HIV-infected hosts, focusing on unique factors contributing to the development of HPV-associated malignancies in this context. Strong molecular virology training and experience are essential, with a background in engineering virologic test systems and viral culture, particularly in cancer biology and bio-specimen analysis, being advantageous.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Analysis and molecular investigation of DNA and RNA viruses.
  • Bioengineering of vectors for delivery of viral genetic material and cell-based assays.
  • Analysis of bio-specimens for viral transmissibility.
  • High-resolution fluorescence microscopy, including confocal.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in engineering of virologic test systems and viral culture is advantageous.
  • Focus on cancer biology and analysis of bio-specimens.
  • 4+ years of postdoctoral experience on the topic of molecular virology of oncogenic viruses.
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related Biological Sciences field required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scientific data collection, reduction, validation, and analysis using established laboratory and research methodologies.
  • Independently evaluate experimental data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency; identify discrepancies or anomalies; apply appropriate statistical and analytical techniques; and interpret results to support ongoing research objectives.
  • Exercise independent judgment in selecting appropriate methods, troubleshooting routine technical issues, ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols, quality assurance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage data entry, verification, processing, and retrieval using electronic databases and laboratory information systems, while monitoring computer-generated output for accuracy and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of research studies, experimental procedures, protocols, datasets, and analytical results in accordance with institutional policies, funding agency requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Organize, validate, and prepare research data for computerized analysis, ensuring data quality, completeness, and consistency throughout the research life cycle.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to Postdoctoral Associates, Graduate Assistants, and Designated Campus Colleagues.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, tables, and graphical presentations of findings for review by principal investigators and research teams.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with management to fully understand policies and procedures to provide guidance to the department on highly complex research initiatives, leading substantive aspects of the project.
  • Oversee laboratory inventory by monitoring supply levels, forecasting needs, and coordinating the procurement of research materials, reagents, equipment, and consumables to support laboratory operations.
