Research & Technology Engineer II - Irvine

MedtronicIrvine, CA
$88,800 - $133,200Onsite

About The Position

As one of three comprehensive portfolios at Medtronic, Neuroscience is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with neurological disorders, spine conditions, and chronic pain. Guided by our Mission—to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life—we develop technologies and therapies that help people regain function, reduce pain, and return to the activities that matter most. Our Neurovascular Operating Unit develops and delivers advanced, minimally invasive endovascular technologies for the treatment of acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain aneurysms, and other complex cerebrovascular conditions. Through catheters, stent retrievers, flow diversion, and embolization systems, these solutions enable rapid, image-guided interventions that restore blood flow, secure vessels, and support consistent performance in high-acuity neurovascular procedures. This is a hands-on Research & Design Engineer role that turns experimental data into design, clinical strategy, and external technical narratives to advance early-stage programs from pre-clinical validation through early clinical readiness. It involves electro-mechanical design, execution, and analysis of pre-clinical and cadaveric studies; translating experimental data into engineering requirements (device architecture, electrode configuration, procedural workflow) to advance therapy development. The role applies strong engineering fundamentals and data analysis (signal interpretation, modeling, statistical comparison across studies) to drive decisions on feasibility, performance, and design tradeoffs. At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We’re working a minimum of 4 days a week onsite as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary.

Requirements

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with neurovascular/endovascular systems (catheters, delivery systems, image-guided procedures)
  • Neural and electrophysiology (EP) signal acquisition, processing, and interpretation
  • Hands-on experience with pre-clinical or cadaveric studies in neuro or cardiovascular systems
  • Electro-mechanical design experience in implantable or catheter-based devices
  • Ability to translate experimental data into system architecture and therapy strategy (e.g., stimulation targets, electrode design, workflow)
  • Experience supporting early clinical/regulatory pathways (EFS, IDE, Breakthrough, Collaborative Research)
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Translate experimental data into engineering requirements to advance therapy development.
  • Design and execute pre-clinical/cadaveric studies with integrated electro-mechanical systems.
  • Apply quantitative analysis (signal, modeling, statistics) to drive feasibility, performance, and design decisions.
  • Serve as R&T engineering interface supporting cross-functional clinical and regulatory strategies (EFS, IDE, Breakthrough).
  • Distill complex data into clear technical narratives and contribute to publications and external presentations.
  • Hands-on product development support to advance R&T concepts and therapies into and through New Product Development.
