About The Position

A Research Technologist – Life Sciences is being sought to support laboratory activities for onboarding research in the Holland-Lulewicz Archaeology and Ecology Labs with the core focus being on zooarchaeological analysis. The Research Technologist will contribute to a variety of laboratory analyses and research activities, including geoarchaeological work, literature reviews, and data analysis. This role will also support the coordination and day-to-day operations of a collaborative research lab.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience undertaking archaeological and/or paleoenvironmental research is preferred.
  • A degree in Anthropology, especially at a Master’s level or higher, will be considered a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct zooarchaeological analyses, including identifying, sorting, weighing, categorizing, and interpreting vertebrate and invertebrate remains recovered through excavation.
  • Perform a range of laboratory analyses on soil samples, including particle size analysis via screening and more advanced testing using core-analyzer facilities.
  • Complete literature reviews on relevant topics, methods, analytical procedures, and background research to support ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Principal Investigator(s) to design and implement quantitative analyses for select datasets and assist in interpreting and reporting findings.
  • Carry out various analytical tasks related to excavation materials, including counting, weighing, photographing, and measuring artifacts and samples.
  • Support general laboratory operations, including coordinating task schedules, tracking project progress, maintaining task calendars, and interfacing with undergraduate and graduate students, volunteers, and research staff.
