About The Position

Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals to advance its mission of patient care, research, teaching, and community service. The OGI Genomics core aims to empower researchers by delivering high-quality genomic services. They offer a variety of genomic technologies, including Sanger and NGS sequencing, genotyping, and gene expression profiling in a CLIA-certified environment. The Research Technologist will work under the supervision of the associate director, performing diagnostic genetic testing, equipment maintenance, solution and reagent preparation, and inventory monitoring in a complex clinical diagnostic laboratory. This role involves carrying out technically advanced research activities, maintaining meticulous records, and potentially supervising technical and administrative elements of the lab. The position also includes onboarding and training new staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or Related Field of Study required
  • Experience in an academic or laboratory research setting 3-5 years required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.
  • Strong database management and overall computer skills.
  • Functions with speed, precision and an understanding of theory behind tests and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DNA extraction, Sanger sequencing and/or next-generation sequencing highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Following laboratory SOPs and with close attention to detail, carries out a wide range of moderate to complex genomics techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing, NGS library preparation/target enrichment, RT-qPCR, and Sanger sequencing for diagnostic-based genetic analyses.
  • Performs procedures in a timely manner with high degree of accuracy and precision and with an understanding of theory behind tests and procedures.
  • May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometers, sequencers, thermal cyclers, ultra-centrifuges and other scientific equipment related to diagnostic testing.
  • Follow quality control policies and procedures. Determine appropriate corrective action and follow up, as needed.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets results.
  • Prepares written and/or verbal status reports.
  • May teach moderately difficult to complex lab techniques to students and fellows.
  • Independently performs non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures.
