About The Position

The Auburn University Applied Research Institute (ARI) is seeking an experienced Research Technician to support the development, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of advanced radiation effects testing and research capabilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of the team establishing and operating a state-of-the-art radiation testing capability that will support government, commercial, and academic customers.

Requirements

  • Must be an U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain DoD security clearance
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in research and/or lab equipment operations (for Level II)
  • 2 years of experience in research and/or lab equipment operations (for Level III)
  • 3 years of experience in research and/or lab equipment operations (for Level IV)
  • 5 years of experience in research and/or lab equipment operations (for Level V)
  • 7 years of experience in research and/or lab equipment operations (for Level VI)
  • 8 years of experience in research and/or lab equipment operations (for Level VII)
  • Additional appropriate education may be applied toward the experience requirement at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Ten (10) or more years of hands-on experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing complex laboratory, industrial, aerospace, military, or research equipment.
  • Experience with particle accelerators, vacuum systems, RF systems, high-voltage systems, industrial controls, scientific instrumentation, or related technologies.
  • Experience supporting radiation effects testing, electronics testing, environmental testing, aerospace testing, semiconductor characterization, or similar laboratory operations.
  • Familiarity with radiation detection equipment and radiation safety practices.
  • Military technical experience involving electronics maintenance, radar systems, nuclear operations, avionics, or test equipment maintenance.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical operations or technical service environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of radiation effects testing facilities, laboratory systems, instrumentation, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain radiation test equipment, beamline systems, vacuum systems, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and associated laboratory equipment used in research and customer testing activities.
  • Perform facility setup, test article installation, equipment alignment, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventative or corrective maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Collect, document, organize, and assist with analysis of experimental, operational, maintenance, and calibration data while maintaining detailed technical records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance in equipment operation, laboratory procedures, and safe work practices while supporting user testing activities and facility operations.
  • Assist with inventory management, procurement activities, technical reports, operating procedures, research documentation, and engagement and coordination with facility users.
