About The Position

The Latner Thoracic Surgery Lab, Ajmera Transplant Centre, seeks a full-time Research Technician under the supervision of Dr. Marcelo Cypel. We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable candidate with at least 3 years prior experience in bench lab research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences, or related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant research laboratory experience in an academic hospital or university setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology and laboratory techniques
  • Experience handling human tissue specimens and biological samples
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety and research compliance procedures
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and research databases
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular and cellular biology techniques including: Flow cytometry, DNA RNA extraction, PCR and real-time PCR, DNA cloning, DNA sequencing including Sanger Sequencing and next generation whole genome sequencing, Cell Culture and cell staining, Protein extraction, Western Blot, ELISA, Histology work including Tissue processing, embedding and slide cutting, HE staining, Immunohistochemistry staining, Immunofluorescence staining
  • Assist with translational and preclinical research studies
  • Develop and optimize protocols as required
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and standard operating procedures
  • Perform data collection, entry, quality assurance, and preliminary analysis
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, maintain inventory, and coordinate equipment servicing
  • Orders and maintains inventories of supplies, animals, and/or equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional biosafety, ethics, and animal care protocols
  • Train and supervise students, research trainees, and junior staff where appropriate
  • Participate in laboratory meetings, departmental rounds, and collaborative research initiatives
