About The Position

The Musculoskeletal Institute at Atrium Health (Department of Orthopaedic Surgery) seeks a highly motivated Research Technician I for its Basic Science and Translational Research laboratory group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
  • Previous laboratory experience (wet lab with basic bench-top skills proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Supporting existing and future research studies
  • Wet-lab bench work, including but not limited to Molecular biology and biochem techniques (nucleic acid isolation from biological samples, qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, microarray, flow cytometry)
  • Biomaterials
  • Cell isolation from blood/tissue and cell/tissue culture
  • Microbiology/bacteriology
  • microCT
  • Microscopy
  • Clinical sample collection and processing involving visits to operating rooms, procedure rooms, and clinical exam rooms.
  • Coordinating with nursing and surgical staff for blood, tissue, and orthopaedic hardware collection.
  • Assist in protocol development and optimization (e.g. critical assessment of existing scientific literature and established protocols)
  • Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team of research scientists, engineers, clinical researchers, and orthopaedic surgeons
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing timelines
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism
