The Department of Biochemistry at UT Southwestern is engaged in vibrant interdisciplinary research at the interface of Chemistry and Biology. Research in the department is centered on understanding how both eukaryotic and bacterial cells function through mechanistic study of metabolic pathways, their catalytic enzymes and their regulatory processes using a range of tools including the development of chemical probes and molecular and biochemical approaches that fuel new discoveries. The Dr. Jinfang Wang laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, is currently seeking a Research Technician to join our team. The Wang Lab is dedicated to elucidating the dynamic mechanisms governing cytosolic and mitochondrial translation. We accomplish this by integrating quantitative biochemical, single-molecule fluorescence biophysical, structural, and genetics approaches. The quantitative models established in our work will pave the way to understand how protein synthesis in either of the cellular compartments is dysregulated in human diseases and guide the identification of novel therapeutic targets. This position is well-suited for a recent graduate (bachelor’s degree) who wants to gain more research experience before pursuing graduate studies. Experienced candidates are also welcome to apply. When you join our lab, we prioritize your continued development into an independent scientist. We will work together to help you identify and achieve your goals and develop a plan to tackle an important question. We also will enhance your ability to think critically and communicate effectively, skills transferable to any career path. In these exciting, early years of the group, we are looking for people who are up to the challenge to help build our research group from the ground up.
