About The Position

The Clinical Project Manager directs projects related to clinical practice, research and education, to include strategy, design, planning, procurement, development, and implementation. Responsible for budget preparation and project scheduling in coordination with all stakeholders across service lines. Provides leadership and supervision to projects in support of clinical areas. Acts as liaison across disciplinary teams to lead projects which impact other areas. Establishes and maintains continuous communications with all project stakeholders to ensure thorough needs assessment, evaluation and prioritization of efforts. Responsible for maintaining accurate communication with clients, team members and Carilion leadership throughout life of each project. Under the direction of senior leadership develops, implements and updates action plans and processes for clinical project management, from inception to completion, including scope, definition, planning, tracking, and corrective action, as well as evaluation of outcomes and effectiveness. Researches and prepares operating and capital budget for Nursing projects. Monitors expenses to stay within approved budgets. Identifies and resolves problems, exercises judgment, makes decisions, handles difficult situations, within scope of authority and established policy/procedure. Implements new policies as necessary. Prioritizes projects and work assignments based on needs and goals of the organization. Directs, motivates and counsels clinical personnel as appropriate. Assists with plans and coordination of special education for clinical leadership. Communicates regularly with clinical leadership, management, administrative personnel and other internal staff, as well as external organizations, patients, families, physicians and other service agencies. Planning and execution is driven by Carilion strategies, with accountability for achievement of organizational goals and objectives. Performs work in a hospital/patient care environment. Appropriate protective measures are required in accordance with Employee Safety Codes. Potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. Fast-paced work environment with extreme intensity level due to life and death situations. Frequent travel between Carilion sites for which own transportation must be provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent 8 years of experience required.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish relationships through strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet computer software and data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years leadership or healthcare equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Project Management or recent demonstrated project success of a Carilion multi-department leadership project.
  • Certification in project management preferred.
