The Research Specialist (ETS) performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. This role involves setting up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator, maintaining, sterilizing and cleaning equipment and supplies, and preparing and disposing of media. The specialist may also care for small research animals, order supplies, maintain designated inventory levels, and review literature for related research developments and techniques, compiling findings. Additionally, the role requires maintaining records, files, and logs of work performed, and compiling data and recording results of studies. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in a scientific field.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
Maintains, sterilizes and cleans equipment and supplies.
Prepares and disposes of media.
May care for small research animals.
Orders supplies and maintains designated inventory levels.
Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.
Maintains records, files and logs of work performed; compiles data and records results of studies.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
